You are a work of art. You are here exactly as you need to be. But sometimes, the world tells us otherwise. When we never feel like enough, how do we build that self-love and acceptance? How do we find comfort in knowing who we are and what we’re here to do? Today we’re going to talk about making peace with yourself.
do some soul-searching
One great way to make peace with yourself, is to look inside and see what you need to make peace with. Sometimes we feel unsettled with who we are, but we don’t really know why. Take some time to evaluate the way you’re feeling. Then, work to accept it, grow from it, and become stronger overall.
If you have a hard time doing this on your own, there’s a lot of help out there for you. An online search can produce a multitude of self-acceptance driven journal prompts. If things run a bit deeper than you can handle on your own, consider seeing a therapist or talking things through with a willing loved one. The most important thing to remember, is that you don’t have to do it on your own.
forgive and forget
In order to make peace with yourself, it’s important to learn how to forgive and move on. Remember that everyone makes mistakes. When you make a mistake, do everything you can to correct it. It may be as simple as cleaning up a spill, or as hard as apologizing to someone you have hurt. Then, once you have made corrections, it’s time to forgive yourself and move on.
Sometimes, even when others have forgiven you, forgiving yourself is the hardest part. Try to remember that you are worthy of forgiveness and love. Everyone makes mistakes, and as long as you are continually trying to improve, it’s okay to mess up from time to time. Holding a mistake over your own head is bound to do more bad than good in the long run.
If you’re having a hard time making peace with yourself, or knowing how much you contribute to the world, it’s never a bad idea to ask others what they think. Just let them know you’re having a hard time, and see if they’re willing to send you some things they love about you. Chances are, they would be happy to. There are so many people that love and care about you. It’s okay to allow them to show that.
