Healthy living can seem daunting, but every healthy behavior you adopt can improve your life. Here are five tips to help you work toward a healthier you!
- Think colorfully.
The next time you sit down at the dinner table, take a look at your plate and count how many colors you see (different shades of brown don’t count as separate colors!). Having a variety of colors of foods typically indicates a variety of nutrients, so try adding colorful fruits and vegetables to each meal for an extra nutritional punch.
- Be physically active.
Want to feel better? Get moving! Exercise can improve your cardiovascular health, strengthen your bones and muscles, aid in weight management, and improve your emotional health. Health professionals recommend doing between 90 and 180 minutes of moderate physical activity each week, so do your best to find an activity that you enjoy doing. - Embrace moderation.
An all-or-nothing mentality can make you miserable in the long run, so we encourage you to embrace moderation. Eat a variety of healthy foods most of the time and enjoy less healthy treats every once in a while. Doing so will allow you to transform your life without giving up the things you love!
- Be mindful.
Making healthy choices is much easier when you embrace mindful eating. Eating mindfully means paying attention to what you’re eating, whether you’re enjoying a full meal or snacking while you work. Eat slowly and stop eating when you feel full. This will help you avoid overeating, but it will also make your meals a more enjoyable experience!
Taking time to relax and recharge is great for both your physical and emotional health. Just a few minutes of relaxation each day can lower your stress levels and give your body time to recover from the demands of daily living. You can find some good ways to relax and relieve stress here and here!
