5 Tips For Your Heart Health
As you’re reading this, your heart is beating away in your chest, pumping oxygen-rich blood to every part of your body. Over the next twenty-four hours, it will beat around 100,000 times and pump 2,000 gallons of blood throughout your body. Without you even having to think about it, your heart works every second of every day to keep you alive. That’s why it’s so important to take care of it.
Here are five tips to help you take care of your heart health!
Exercise can have a powerful impact on your heart health. Your heart is a muscle, and just like your other muscles, exercise helps it become stronger and more efficient. Aerobic exercise, such as walking, jogging, swimming, and cycling, is especially beneficial. At Yoli, we recommend working out for 30-45 minutes three to five times a week. If you’re not used to working out, be sure to start out slow and work up to it.
2. Maintain a Healthy Weight.
Your weight can make a big difference for your heart health. Carrying around excess weight puts more strain on your heart and can increase your risk for high blood pressure and other cardiovascular problems. Yoli’s Transformation Kit is a great way to reach and maintain a healthy weight for your body. You can find out more here!
3. Cut Back on Sugar.
While you don’t need to cut sugar out entirely, cutting back on it can have a big impact on your health. This study found “a significant relationship between added sugar consumption and increased risk for CVD mortality.” Take a look at your diet and see if there are added sugars that you can remove. Be sure to read nutritional labels, as even foods that are marketed as healthy can be filled with sugar!
4. GET ENOUGH SLEEP.
It may seem like we offer this advice a lot, but sleep can have a big impact on a lot of aspects of your health, and your heart is no exception! A lack of adequate sleep can increase your risk for heart disease, so it’s important to make it a priority. Most adults need between 7-9 hours of sleep each night. If that’s something you struggle with, try Dream.
5. EAT HEALTHY FATS.
Fat is often derided as unhealthy, especially where your heart health is concerned, but not all fats are created equal. Saturated fats should be eaten sparingly, and trans fats are better off avoided as much as possible. But good fats, such as omega-3 fatty acids (found in Omegas), monounsaturated fat, and polyunsaturated fat, are good for your cardiovascular health, so include them in your diet regularly!
