MAKING MEANINGFUL CONNECTIONS

Making friends and meeting new people can be hard, especially if you don’t consider yourself a particularly social type. Even if you are, it can sometimes be hard to make a truly meaningful connection. It’s week 5 of the Yoli From Home Transformation Challenge, and we’re encouraging you to better your life overall. Let’s talk about making meaningful connections to those around you!

BE GENUINE AND AUTHENTIC

One of the most important things to remember when trying to meaningfully connect with someone, is that you have to be true to yourself. If you’re pretending to be someone you’re not, the connection won’t be authentic. If it’s not a genuine connection, it will be hard for you to make it meaningful. Even if you don’t feel like it’s true, there are people out there that want to know the real you.

Meaningfully connecting with someone means opening yourself up and being vulnerable. It allows you to place trust in someone else. When we’re vulnerable with others, we have the chance to create deeper relationships, find someone we can confide in, and feel more fulfilled in our day-to-day lives. Vulnerability is hard, but it’s definitely something worth working on.

HAVE THE RIGHT INTENTION

When trying to connect, or reconnect, with someone for the first time, it’s important to do it with the right intention. If you’re looking to gain something out of it materialistically, it can come across the wrong way. This could ruin your chance at an amazing friendship! Instead, reach out with the intention to connect in some way. Maybe you want to know more about their career. Maybe you want to talk to them about all of the baking they’ve been doing lately. If you’re reaching out to gain something other than a meaningful connection, chances are that they will see right through it.

LISTEN

Something we often forget during conversations is that it’s more important to listen than it is to think of what you’re going to say next. If you’re ignoring everything someone is saying, it’s not likely that they’ll want to connect with you again in the future! Work on your active listening skills. Focus on what they’re saying and what they mean by it. Smile and nod so they know you’re paying attention. Remember, a meaningful connection goes both ways!
