PRACTICING SELF CARE

With everyone you have to take care of, you may be neglecting the most important person— yourself! Today we’ll be talking about self care and why it’s important.

YOU CAN’T GIVE WHAT YOU DON’T HAVE

Imagine that you have a cup with a limited amount of water. You can share it with others, but you need to stop to refill it every once in a while, otherwise you’ll have nothing to share. This is exactly how you should view your time and what you have to offer others! While helping and spending time with people is great, if you’re always doing that and never taking time for yourself, you’ll eventually run on empty. That’s just one of the many reasons it’s so important to take time for self care! Not only will it enable you to better help others, taking time for yourself will also reduce stress, help you grow, and make you happier overall!

SAYING NO

An important habit to learn as part of self care, is that it’s okay to say no sometimes. You don’t have to overfill your schedule! If you know there’s a week where you already have a lot to do, it’s okay to turn down requests no matter what they are. This is also where prioritizing your time comes in handy. There’s no sense in adding extra stress to yourself if you don’t have to. It’s important to remember that there’s always someone else who would be able to help if you are unable to.

TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF!

Self care doesn’t always look like spa nights or desserts. While these definitely have a place in your routine, you also want to be sure that other aspects of your health are taken care of! Working on hobbies, getting exercise, eating properly, forgiving yourself, and keeping your space organized and clean are all great ways to practice self care. Making sure that your needs are put as a higher priority than others wants is so important. You need to be your biggest supporter!
