When it comes to achieving goals, progress is exciting and motivating! But, there will be times where we get stuck in the same spot. Plateaus can be frustrating and demotivating, but they don’t last forever! It’s week four of the Yoli From Home Challenge, and we’re encouraging you to find ways to overcome obstacles. Let’s talk about pushing past plateaus!
RECOGNIZE WHAT YOU’VE ACCOMPLISHED
When you’re feeling stuck in your goals, one of the first things you should do is look back on everything you’ve already accomplished. Sometimes it can be hard to recognize how much progress you’ve already made! Take some time to look at how much you’ve accomplished, and be specific about it. Write it all out. Where did you start? Where are you now? We sometimes have the tendency to focus on everything that still needs to be done. While it’s important to continue to develop ourselves, it’s just as important to recognize what we’ve already done!
In addition to writing everything out, go through everything you’ve done to track your progress. This can be before and after photos if your goal is muscle gain, comparing art from when you first started to where you are now, or even asking those closest to you on the differences they see! Your accomplishments are worth celebrating.
TRY CHANGING YOUR PLAN
If you’ve been following your original plan for quite a while and you still feel stuck, it may be time to try something new. This doesn’t mean abandoning your goal entirely. What it does mean, is maybe approaching it in a different way. If your goal is weight loss, try a new exercise routine or meal plan. If you’re working on learning how to paint, it might be time to follow a new tutorial. Regardless of what your goal is, get creative. What is something new you could try that would still eventually lead you to the same result?
TALK TO SOMEONE
When it comes to your goals, you don’t have to accomplish them alone. Build a support system that can help you stay motivated whether you’re progressing or not. It may also help to talk to a professional in the field of your goal. A nutritionist, artist, mechanic, or even a professional underwater basket weaver! More often than not, people are willing to share their expertise and craft with you. You never know what friendships will come of it, so never be afraid to reach out!
