Last week we discussed what happens when you don’t sleep enough. But, regardless of how much sleep we get, it can sometimes be hard to keep ourselves energized during our busy days! When we get more tired, it can be easier to make poor health decisions, causing us to fall back onto unhealthy habits. Today we’ll be discussing some ways you can keep your energy up during your day!

When pressed with deadlines, some of us may opt to stay where we are and work for hours on one thing. This actually does more harm than good! Our brains aren’t meant to focus for that long, meaning we are overworking them. By getting up and going on a walk or stretching, your brain will have a chance to reset. Not only does this help you be more productive and produce better work, it also means that you won’t be exhausting yourself by forcing your brain to work for periods it isn’t meant to.

In addition to taking breaks during the day, it’s important to get at least 30 minutes of exercise. When you work out, your body will release endorphins. These feel great and will help you feel energized throughout the remainder of the day! It will also help you sleep better, meaning better energy for the next day.

What you eat can also affect how energized you are throughout the day! Big meals heavy in sugars can cause you to feel more tired. Instead, eating small meals and snacks high in protein and healthy fats will not only help you feel full for longer, but will also take longer to digest, meaning you will have more energy throughout the day. Snacking on things such as cheese, avocado, jerky, or hummus are a great way to make sure you don’t go hungry, while also fueling your body with the energy that it needs!

Some people may be wary to consume caffeine, but when used correctly, it can be a great way to pick yourself up when you need it! Consuming a small amount of caffeine in the mornings can give you the extra energy you need to get throughout your day. We recommend a natural, sugar-free drink such as Passion. Regardless of how you decide to take it, be careful to not consume any during the afternoon, as this could make it harder to sleep.
