Here are some tips for cleaner eating!


Shop the perimeter.

Most grocery stores have processed foods in the center aisles and fresh meats and produce around the outside. If you want to eat clean, stick to the perimeter of the store. While you’ll need to venture into the middle of the store for things like natural nut butters and olive oil, spend the majority of your time away from there so you don’t end up grabbing unhealthy treats on impulse!

Read the labels.

When you buy packaged foods, don’t get caught up in what the front of the box says! It’s the nutritional facts and the list of ingredients that will be most useful to you. Think about the small stuff.

It’s easy to focus on the larger components of your meal—your protein, your complex carbohydrates, and your fruits and vegetables—but they’re not the only thing you should consider. Pasta sauces, barbeque sauces, salad dressings, condiments, and the like also deserve your attention, as they can be filled with sugar or other surprising ingredients. And if you’re cooking something in a pan, don’t forget that anything you use to cook it—oils, butter, margarine, etc. —also goes into your food. Do your best to stick with real, natural ingredients as much as possible if you’re trying to eat clean!

Spice things up.

Contrary to popular belief, clean eating doesn’t have to be bland eating! There are a lot of ways to bump up the flavor of your food without giving up on eating clean.
