USING YOUR PANTRY

With the importance of staying home, it’s vital that we utilize everything in our pantry to its full potential. We currently don’t have the luxury to run to the store anytime we need an extra ingredient! Today we’ll be sharing tips on how to make the most out of your pantry. Not only will it make your life easier, it will also help you save money and eat out less!

STOCK UP IN ADVANCE

The next time you go to the store, consider grabbing a few extra things. Keeping things on hand will keep you from finding yourself without anything to make. Things such as canned tuna, beans, vegetables, whole-grain pastas, and sauces are all great options. You don’t have to be excessive with it—just keep enough on hand for a few meals!

It’s important to remember that, when stocking up, you should purchase your food like you regularly would. For example, if you prefer to eat organic foods, the extras you buy should be organic, too! Just because this stock will be used in case of a food emergency, doesn’t mean you should compromise.

GET CREATIVE

Missing a few of your usual salad toppings? Dig through your pantry and see what you might be able to add! Things like red beans, artichokes, olive oil, dried fruits, and corn are great ways to add color and variety to your usual salad. It’s also a great idea to look at your favorite recipes and see what additions or substitutions you can make from what you have in your pantry. For example, applesauce can replace eggs in a lot of baking recipes!

Getting creative with what you have on hand will help you get more variety in, allow you to use the food that may have been sitting for a while, try something new, and save money. Even though it might be easier to run to the store or your favorite fast food restaurant, it’s worth it to take the extra time to make something new!

KEEP TRACK

Have you ever bought something at the store, only to come home and realize that you already had it? That’s why it’s so important to keep track of everything in your pantry! There are lots of ways to do this. If you have a bigger pantry, you can organize everything so it’s easily seen. That way, when you go through to make your grocery list, you’ll be able to clearly see everything you already have. If you don’t have the space for that, keeping a list that hangs near the pantry or lives in your phone are also great options. Just be sure to update them after every shopping trip.
